Although historically most associated with the aughts, Portland-based indie rockers Modest Mouse’s breakthrough sophomore record, The Lonesome Crowded West, actually dropped in 1997. This 25th anniversary of the Calvin Johnson-produced album – ranked 29 on Pitchfork’s 100 greatest albums of the 1990s and 59 on Spin’s 100 greatest albums of 1985-2005 – has Modest Mouse founders and mainstays Isaac Brock and Jeremiah Green joined by Russell Higbee and Simon O’Connor for a four piece (as originally toured the album), playing a month’s worth of intimate dates that will have them headlining The Fillmore this coming Thursday, December 15th. Although album tracks like “Doin’ the Cockroach,” “Trailer Trash,” and “Cowboy Dan” have remained live favorites, these performances are the first time the band has ever played the entire album front-to-back. In addition, the shows will also feature a limited vinyl picture disc of the LP (courtesy of Glacial Pace Recordings) available at the merch stand. Although tickets for their local stop are technically sold-out, there are Verified Resale Tickets, which you can get at the link below. Before the show, check out Pitchfork’s 2013, 45-minute documentary on the album.
