Today California post-hardcore outfit Movements released their latest single (and accompanying visualizer), “Where I Lay,” courtesy of longtime home Fearless Records. “It’s really emotionally vulnerable and it had me revisiting places with my writing that I hadn’t explored in a while. It’s for anyone else out there who feels like they’ve never quite fit right in the world. This one is for the outcasts,” Movements vocalist and co-founder Patrick Miranda says in the band’s latest press release, going on to add that the song is a companion piece of sorts to 2024 single “Afraid To Die.”
“The idea is that ‘Afraid To Die’ and ‘Where I Lay’ are living in the same world thematically — and, in some ways, are extensions of one another. In ‘Afraid To Die,’ I’m being chased by masked figures. In ‘Where I Lay,’ the masked figure is going to be me. Since ‘Where I Lay’ is about feeling like you don’t belong; it’s almost this idea that the reason I was being chased in ‘Afraid To Die’ is because I never really was supposed to be part of the group of masked figures to begin with. It’s like you’re wearing a mask to try to blend in, but in the end, it’s pointless… because one way or another, you’ll be found out.”
The two singles follow up 2023 third full-length RUCKUS! [and 2024’s RUCKUS! (The Remixes)], produced by longtime collaborator and Conshohocken’s own Will Yip, whose extensive and profoundly impressive catalogue includes releases from our phriends Turnover, Pinkshift, and Destroy Boys. The tour behind the album had the band putting on their biggest headlining show in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection yet when they played The Fillmore in September 2023. Movements are set to return to the Fishtown ballroom on March 15th as part of a five-week North American tour which kicks off March 1st and features direct support from Citizen, openers Downward, and our good buddies Scowl (whose 2023 EP Psychic Dance Routine was produced by Will Yip) playing the second slot.
