Johnny Brenda’s has quite the calendar this spring. Beach Fossils, Smith Westerns, tUnE-YarDs, Wye Oak, and Zola Jesus, are all stopping by the Fishtown joint in the next 6 weeks alone.

4/6 Cloud Nothings kick off this great month of music Wednesday at Johnny Brenda’s with Roman à clef. The local pop group is comprised of Ryan Newmyer and Anne Fredrickson of A Sunny Day in Glasgow, Brittany Paris, and Rosa Kneller. [Get tickets here.]

4/7 Toy Soldiers are celebrating the release of their new EP, Get Through the Time, and the kickoff of their upcoming tour this Thursday night. They’ll be joined by some of our local standouts, TJ Kong & The Atomic Bomb, Paper Masques, and Up The Chain. Thursday night will be your first chance to grab a copy of the new EP, so bring some cash. [Get tickets here.]

However, there’s another super show at Danger Danger Gallery, and my only recommendation for your underage folks. Thrill Jockey’s The Skull Defekts bring their powerful drone and massive guitar riffs to Baltimore Ave. alongside ZOMES and locals Northern Liberties. Lungfish’s Daniel Higgs joined the Swedish bands lineup for their latest release, Peer Amid, and will be performing with them.

4/8 While I don’t usually endorse Live Nation events for personal, and professional, reasons, XPN is presenting a lineup this weekend I’d be foolish to ignore. TV on the Radio’s tour comes through Philly this Friday night with special guests Celebration and Saturn Never Sleeps. You may have witnessed the Saturn Never Sleeps experiment previously at Silk City or Painted Bride Art Center. Celebration, fresh off the release of their latest album, Hello Paradise, is joining ex-label-mates TV on the Radio for a handful of gigs starting this Friday at The Electric Factory. TV on the Radio will release their fourth album, Nine Types of Light, April 12th. [Get tickets here.]

4/9 Saturday is one of my favorite reasons for attending college in Philadelphia, Human BBQ XXXIII. Check back later this week for a post regarding Pilam’s annual spring festival.
