5/25 Holly Miranda will be joining Grooms at Kung Fu Necktie. I saw Holly Miranda open up for Tegan & Sara this past winter and it was love at first listen. The XL Recording artist’s debut, The Magician’s Private Library, was produced by TV on the Radio’s David Sitek and Katrina Ford of Celebration. Supporting Holly with some gloomy noise-pop will be Death By Audio’s Grooms. [Get tickets here.]

(Fang Island, “Life Coach”)

5/27 Thursday night brings together Brooklyn’s Fang Island and locals Univox at The Barbary. The boys of Fang Island have an exciting summer coming up as they will be playing with the likes of Dan Deacon, Spoon, and The Flaming Lips. I caught these guys in Baltimore back in March and I have to warn you – Fang Island is addictive. Their Pitchfork-approved self-titled release has been on every playlist I’ve made for the past two months. Don’t miss this show. [Get tickets here.]

5/28 Philly’s Free Energy and Jukebox The Ghost will be teaming up with Miniature Tigers for a night of pop at the First Unitarian Church. Free Energy has been everywhere since Pitchfork granted their debut full-length an 8.1. Produced by James Murphy, Stuck on Nothing is the perfect summer soundtrack. It’s simple and catchy as hell. 5/29 Montreal buddies The Besnard Lakes and Land of Talk will be stopping by Johnny Brenda’s with Holowpaw this Saturday. Fronted by husband-and-wife Olga Goreas and Jace Lasek, The Besnard Lakes released their latest LP, The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night, this past March. The LP highlights the ambient pop the group is known for along with rich guitar riffs and the steady roaring of drums. [Get tickets here.]

5/30 Head back to Johnny Brenda’s Sunday night for Holy Fuck, Nice Nice, and Grandchildren. Nice Nice’s melodic noise-rock is the result of the mainly improvisational layerings of just two guys; a guitarist and a percussionist. I am very anxious to see them pull their sound off live and couldn’t think of a better match for West Philly’s Grandchildren. [Get tickets here.]
