Colorado trio The Velveteers look like an entity straight out of Todd Haynes’ Velvet Goldmine.  However, frontwoman and guitarist Demi Demitro says (in the band’s official bio) that they are far from a retro act: “We don’t want to sound like a band from a different time…  We want to sound like a band that’s right here right now—in this very moment.”  The Velveteers have Demitro accompanied by two drummers, Baby Pottersmith and Jonny Fig (who play on a conjoined set), and kick out glittery garage rock jams that sound like the work of vagabonds ravenous for all the secrets of the cosmos.

Last October The Velveteers released their debut LP, Nightmare Daydream, which was produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach in his Nashville studio, and have been on the road ever since, alongside acts like Greta Van Fleet and Des Rocs.  Next month they hit the road with The Black Keys and Band of Horses, playing arenas and sheds.  However, they’re currently on a headlining run that will have them playing our very own Warehouse on Watts (or W.O.W.) tonight!  The show is an early one (doors at 7 and show at 7:30) and an all ages one that has them supported by local rock outfits Caring Less and Archive Special.  Get your tickets and check out their recent video for “Dark Horse.”
