Last year the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection saw a number of noteworthy “classic album” tours, from Superheaven doing Jar at Union Transfer to Sparta doing Wiretap Scars at Underground Arts and Boris and Melvins doing Heavy Rocks and Bullhead (respectively) at Brooklyn Bowl. However, the first classic album from the world of heavy music that we’re excited to experience live in 2024 comes courtesy of Australian metalcore legends The Amity Affliction, who are currently on tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of their fourth (and most celebrated) LP, Let the Ocean Take Me.
Upon the album’s 2014 release, Alternative Press proclaimed, “Let The Ocean Take Me makes great strides in keeping one foot in the metalcore pool while doing a multi-directional genre dance with the other—sort of like a new-school hokey-pokey for those who would sport full sleeves and spacers,” with Blabbermouth.net saying, “Songs like ‘Don’t Lean On Me’ and ‘FML’ are fueled by desperate emotion and intense anxiety but achieve extraordinary transcendence through radical honesty and raw power.” Loudwire chimed in, “All in all, The Amity Affliction succeed is not only delivering an album that rocks, but providing a deeply personal and intense story for those who invest themselves in what’s being said.”
While the touring cycle for Let the Ocean Take Me had The Amity Affliction headlining venues of up to nearly 10,000 capacity in their homeland, their stateside dates had them playing some exceptionally intimate spaces, including an October 2014 stop at The Barbary. However, since then, they’ve earned major American venue upgrades, playing locally at TLA, The Fillmore, and Brooklyn Bowl. And on Sunday, May 26th The Amity Affliction will be returning to Franklin Music Hall, which they first headlined in 2019.
On their current run of dates, which kicked off last month, The Amity Affliction have been opening performances with Let The Ocean Take Me in its entirety, followed by two encores which feature a sampling from much of their back catalogue, including longtime fan favorites and tracks from last year’s Not Without My Ghosts. Joining the band on this run are a trio of likeminded metalcore outfits, including Currents, our good friends Dying Wish, and Mugshot, so make sure to get there early (Show at 6:30!) In the meantime, check out the original music videos for some of Let the Ocean Take Me’s biggest tracks.
