We remember the days of Texas psych-funk trio Khruangbin playing Eraserhood’s Underground Arts like it was yesterday (The last time was apparently 2018…)  However, their last date in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection had them headlining the significantly grander and more opulent opera house (The Met Philly) up the street, whose stage they graced in March of 2022.  And when the band announced their latest tour this January, they scheduled two dates at the up-to-3,500-capacity theatre… with a third added shortly thereafter…

Khruangbin are currently touring in support of A LA SALA, the band’s fourth studio LP, which dropped on April 5th via Dead Oceans (their home since 2018’s Con Todo el Mundo).  “This domestic, stripped-down edition of Khruangbin has all the comforts of home, wherever in the world that may be,” Pitchfork said of the album.  The 12-song LP sees the band scaling things down from recent releases, working solely with longtime engineer Steve Christensen and using minimal overdubs.  The origins of the songs started with “off-the-cuff recordings” in the form of voice-memos created during soundchecks and the band’s world travels.

Last month, Khruangbin kicked off their current trek at Coachella and next Tuesday-Thursday (May 21st, 22nd, and 23rd) they will be making their return to the 215 at The Met, with tickets currently ranging from about $70 to about $300.  The headlining shows, which are currently scheduled through the end of November in Europe, have been boasting two sets, an opening set of A LA SALA in its entirety, followed by a second set and encore comprised of band and fan favorites from their back catalogue, with a focus on their 2015 debut full-length, The Universe Smiles Upon You.  And with the group’s fandom running the gamut from the most casual music listeners to the most intense record-collecting music nerds, we would suggest picking up your tickets for at least one of Khruangbin’s three nights at the opera ASAP.
