This weekend Alex G returns to the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection for his first multiple-night stand in his hometown for the first time in three years.  November of 2022 had the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist performing three nights in a row at Union Transfer in support of nineth studio LP God Save the Animals (The weekend-long stint featured PHILTHY phriend Hatchie opening Night One, while Japanese Breakfast made an appearance during Night Three’s encore.)  This time around, the local indie rock icon is touring behind follow-up and major-label debut Headlights, which dropped this July on RCA.

Studio LP #10 earned a perfect score courtesy of The Guardian and had Pitchfork saying, “In sound and spirit, Headlights might be described as present-day “dad rock.”  Alex G is playing with new toys that make records sound both more organic and expensive—banjo, accordion, mandolin, actual string sections.  This puts Headlights right where it should be, in conversation with major-label debuts from the likes of R.E.M., Elliott Smith, Death Cab for Cutie, and Modest Mouse; classics in their own right and gateways to some of the most influential indie rock of the previous decade.”

Alex G will be performing back-to-back headlining shows this Saturday (10/11) and Sunday (10/12) at The Fillmore, likely to feature Headlights in its entirety, along with favorites from his seven previous full-lengths.  Joining him for this entire run is PHILTHY phavorite Nilüfer Yanya, who you may have heard on the latest edition of Philthy Radio (now streaming) and who is definitely worth showing up early for.  Get your tickets for the nearly-sold-out shows below, check out Alex G’s recent performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and check out our very own Morgan Kelley’s pics from Night One of Alex G’s 2022 stint at Union Transfer.

During the day Izzy Cihak teaches transgression, subversion, and revolution at Temple and Drexel. At night he haunts Philthy's best venues to cover worthwhile acts for PHILTHY MAG. Morrissey is everything to him and, in their own heads, all of his friends see themselves as Zooey Deschanel.
