6/4 Friday night Reptar and Co Co Ri Co will be at West Philly’s Danger Danger Gallery by way of Georgia. Joining them will be Philadelphia’s own The Armchairs and TJ Kong & The Atomic Bomb. Reptar is one of many young bands to draw influences from Animal Collective and MGMT to create a new blend of electronic pop music. However, another comparison I heard was Talking Heads and I like it. Their tourmates Co Co Ri Co has a slightly more experimental sound. Their myspace says to “imagine Mount Eerie, Deerhoof, and Cap’n Jazz all playing Pictionary at the bottom of the ocean n a cloud of glow-in-the-dark sea creatures.” I’m not quite sure what that means, but I can’t wait to find out. Also contributing to this bill will be Americana-punk-rockers Lonnie Walker. These North Carolina boys have a sound that never fails to make me throw back some whiskey, even in the sweaty confines of Danger Danger Gallery. I highly suggest checking out the Friends and Friends of Friends compilation via Friends Records. This stellar compilation was released digitally (for free!) about a month ago and word on the street is a limited edition of cassettes is now available. Do yourself a favor and give a listen to Lonnie Walker’s “Feels Like Right.” It’s one of my absolute favorite songs so far this year.

6/5 West Philadelphia’s favorite music festival/flea market is finally here. This Saturday marks the Sixth Annual Best Fest! From 1-7pm West Philly’s Clark Park will be the stage for over a dozen local gems. On top of all the FREE music, there will be tons of local vendors and artists.

And as we mentioned yesterday, there is so much going on this weekend to help Sabina’s family pay for her funeral. If you can, please find a way to help.
