9/30 There’s another great show at The Trocadero this week. Both Stars and Wild Nothing will be playing in Chinatown this Thursday. I was quite obsessed with Wild Nothing’s debut album, Gemini, all Spring. While Wild Nothing has come to have a steady place in many of my playlists, I have yet to catch them live. Since I am a poor college student/blogger, and these tickets will run you upwards of $20 via Ticketmaster, all you people with jobs better check this one out and let me know how much fun you had. Thursday also presents you with the opportunity to catch Efterklang on what is going to be their last American tour for a number of years. Efterklang has been relying on government arts grants to support their touring costs, but the grants have all run dry. If you’ve seen Efterklang before, this is very disappointing news. And if you haven’t seen them, you really should Thursday night. They are one of the bands I absolutely will not miss when they are in town. 10/3 The Vaselines released two singles and one album in 1989 only to break up the same week their album was released. Over two decades later, the band is back with a twelve song album, Sex With An X. In the midst of a US tour, they’ll be stopping by the First Unitarian Church on Sunday for what is sure to be a memorable night. [Get tickets here.]
Johnny Brenda’s has a less expensive option for you Sunday night with Born Ruffians, Winter Gloves, and hometown heroes Toy Soldiers. You’ve probably been living under a rock if you’re not in the know about and loving Toy Soldiers. This Philadelphia collective put a fresh spin on classic Americana folks and blues with their Mad Dragon debut, Whisper Down the Line.
