Although we’re all still lamenting the days when our favorite industrial disco sleazeballs (and other subversive outsiders in general) could headline a city’s premiere clubs throughout the ‘90s, Philthy has enjoyed getting to see Wax Trax! alums My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult play some of the city’s quirkier venues throughout the past decade and a half; from the former mecca of hair metal, Whiskeydix; to our favorite former corner punk dive, the North Star; the emo sanctuary that is The Barbary; and most, recently, a sold out show at PhilaMOCA, the city’s premiere gallery, art house, and hipster venue.  However, this Saturday, October 26th, Groovie Mann and Buzz McCoy are bringing their current show to perhaps the koolest and most appropriate venue the city has to offer the fetish-driven dance outfit, the Sanctuary of the First Unitarian Church (where there will be a service, come Sunday morning…)  Thrill Kill Kult are currently touring behind their latest studio LP, In the House of Strange Affairs, which dropped earlier this year, but their recent setlists have been generously spanning their 30+ year career.  If you need any extra help getting excited for their show this Saturday, have a listen to this playlist of what I consider to be their 10 most essential songs.

  1. “The Kult Konnection”

  1. “Magic Boy, Magic Girl”

  1. “After the Flesh”

  1. “Sex on Wheelz”

  1. “Glamour is a Rocky Road”

  1. “…Cuz It’s Hot”

  1. “Hour of Zero”

  1. “Kooler Than Jesus”

  1. “The Days of Swine & Roses”

  1. “LeatherSex”

During the day Izzy Cihak teaches transgression, subversion, and revolution at Temple University. At night he haunts Philthy's best venues to cover worthwhile acts for Philthy Mag. Morrissey is everything to him and, in their own heads, all of his friends see themselves as Zooey Deschanel.
