Brilliantly charming Minneapolis indie pop duo Now, Now, recently dropped their first new recording in half a decade, serving as the follow-up to their 2012 sophomore album, Threads, of which I wrote, “The synth-very-heavy album sounds along the lines of a pleasantly mellow trip on Jupiter.  It’s quite dark, but not scary.  In fact, the most existentially romantic aspects of heartbreak glimmer quite brightly throughout the release.”  In the time since then the band has stripped back down to its original duo, comprised of KC Dalager and Bradley Hale, with superfan-turned vocalist/guitarist Jess Abbott moving on to focus on Tancred (who will be playing Union Transfer with Slothrust on August 10th), and last month they released single “SGL.”  Yet another wonderfully poppy tale of heartbreak, the summertime anthem falls somewhere between the best of Tegan and Sara and the best of Butch Walker.  NPR characterizes the track as, “A heart-throbbing pop song with a karaoke-bar blast radius.”  Now, Now are currently on a run of dates that will have them playing a super sold out show this Monday, July 10th, at Boot & Saddle.  Whether or not you’re lucky enough to have snatched up tickets in time, you should definitely give their latest single a listen below.  And, while you’re at it, have a look at KC Dalager and I’s June 2012 chat, previewing their last stop at the North Star.
