Public Access T.V.: I’d Rather Be Listening to This Than an Album Blur Put Out in 2015

Remember Be Your Own Pet? Yeah, they were pretty great; their self-titled debut LP was like the best punk record since Dig Me Out and their live shows were on par with The Stooges and Refused (Remember when they played that house show in South Philly and got drunk on Natty Boh?  That was kinda awesome.)  Well, they’re all still pretty great, albeit each on their own: Jemina Pearl’s been hip-hopping from cool project to cool project, Jonas Stein has Turbo Fruits, and John Eatherly (formerly of both Pearl’s solo band and Turbo Fruits and currently drumming in The Virgins) has his own band, Public Access T.V.  Public Access T.V. are releasing their Public Access EP digitally this Tuesday, May 12th, on Terrible Records (physically on June 16th) and that night they will be opening for Palma Violets at our very own Johnny Brenda’s.  Currently NYC-based, John has composed his outfit of a group of his friends with a shared love of Brit Pop.  Their sound also rings of the lighter side of protopunk and the most slow-danceable kind of post-punk.  They’ve released a handful of singles and supported acts like Weezer and Gang of Four. They recently released a video for their latest single, “Metropolis.”  And while it’s not nearly as cool as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, it is pretty fuckin’ cool (and much more fun to dance to than anything that came out of German Expressionism).  Check it out below and check the band out Tuesday at PHILTHY’s coolest concert spot.

During the day Izzy Cihak teaches transgression, subversion, and revolution at Temple University. At night he haunts Philthy's best venues to cover worthwhile acts for Philthy Mag. Morrissey is everything to him and, in their own heads, all of his friends see themselves as Zooey Deschanel.
