So The Roots will be Jimmy Fallon’s house band when he takes over for Conan O’Brien at Late Night in the spring. Whtvr. The Roots are a way better band than Fallon is a comedian, and since 90% of the show is Fallon, chances are I won’t be watching.

The bigger picture: Leno is staying at NBC, moving to 10PM and eliminating the need for five hour-long scripted shows (saving the company an estimated $200 Million), and setting NBC up to have talk shows from 10PM-2AM (minus your local news). What does that mean?

I think it’s the first sign that TV is falling. Low ratings, combined with huge competition from the internet and video games, added to the shitty economy, equals bad news for the major networks. (But proly good news for us.) They are cutting cost wherever they can. And I have a feeling this is only the beginning of some weird choices TV networks are going to have to make over the next few years. Stay tuned…
