Jon Crary’s Weekly Sound Off 6/12-6/19:
1. Katie Frank and the Pheromones- “Tunnel Vision” (BITBY Music) – Katie Frank is from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. With her band the Pheromones, they play the tastiest, dreamiest roots rock today. It rocks with huge hooks and melodies and excellent instrumentation. Their beautiful new album is out: “Counting Your Curses.” This is my big song of the week!

2. First Aid Kit “ Silver Lining” – Those who are on the fence about pop or country need to listen to First Aid Kit. There is a fine interpretation of American country music here. It’s not really country more like a finer pop sensation. Killer song from an equally great album “Stay Gold”.

3. The Antlers “ Hotel” (Anti-records)– Lovely downbeat new single from this post-dream/ psych rock band from Brooklyn. The hooks and voice from Peter Silberman are beautiful. It’s sublime. Perfect song!

4. Hundred Waters “Murmurs” – Where do I start with this? It’s a piano driven, synth-pop dreamy chant pop song with lots of instrumentation going on. The vocals are perfect, and so is the music. It’s an epic triumph a place where pop may be headed now. Really love this song!
