S. Carey is undoubtedly best known as the drummer for Bon Ivar, he should perhaps be equally acknowledged for having exceptionally excellent taste in support acts. The last time he was in town, April of 2014 at Boot & Saddle, he brought with him ineffably delectable art pop chanteuse White Hinterland and tonight S. Carey returns to Philthy’s favorite former-honky-tonk, this time with equally impressive folktronica singer/songwriter Gordi, who I’m assuming will be the highlight of the evening. Gordi, or Sophie Payten, released her debut full-length, Reservoir, last summer. The songs on Reservoir are whimsically melancholy and delicately epic, the majority of which were inspired by the friendships she’s had and lost throughout her life. Although only 25, Gordi seems sentimentally poignant beyond her years, and would also seem to appeal to fans of traditional Americana and “the postmodern” alike. Gordi takes the stage of Boot & Saddle tonight at 8:30 sharp, so make sure to get there early. In the meantime, check out her video for recent single, “Bitter End.”
