Last week we met Chicago teenage alt-rock quartet Neptune’s Core, who made their Philadelphia debut with a top-shelf rock show at Kung Fu Necktie.  However, it turns out that we have a mutual friend in Chicago indie rock duo Friko, comprised of vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Niko Kapetan and drummer Bailey Minzenberger.

Neptune’s Core and Friko have been cohorts in Chicago’s indie scene and even played a show together at the legendary Metro last month.  And we first met Friko last November, following the announcement of their debut LP — Where we’ve been, Where we go from here, which dropped this February on ATO Records and which SPIN says, “places [Friko] in a lineage of great indie- and alt-rock acts like Radiohead, Arcade Fire, and Bright Eyes—bands with prominent weird streaks, arena-sized potential, and the chops to build a bridge between the two.” — and just prior to kicking off a run of dates which started with their own debut appearance at Kung Fu Necktie.

Well, less than 6 months on and Friko’s already set to return to the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection next Thursday, April 11th, when they’ll be supporting Nashville-based indie/alternative blues outfit WILLIS at MilkBoy.  Get your tickets, read my November chat with Niko and Bailey, and check out Friko’s official live video for “Chemical,” which debuted just a few hours ago and showcases the band’s exceptional live chops.
