Every week Y-Not Radio, the home of Philthy Radio, gives away a free pair of tickets for a notable upcoming concert to a lucky listener who votes for the Top 3 Y-Not Songs of the Week for Thursday’s weekly Top 11 @ 11.  This week’s tickets are for an exceptionally cool gig: Franz Ferdinand at The Fillmore on April 8th.  The Tuesday night show will be the Scottish indie rockers’ first appearance at the Fishtown ballroom since their August 2022 stop in support of greatest hits LP Hits to the Head, cementing them as official 21st Century rock legends (Read my review of the show here.)  And it will be their first performance in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection promoting new material since their 2018 date in the same room while they were touring their fifth studio album, Always Ascending.

For the past month, Franz Ferdinand have been on the road (throughout Europe) supporting The Human Fear, their sixth full-length, which dropped this January on Domino, their home since 2004 self-titled debut.  The European shows (which have been clocking in, on average, at more than an hour and a half) have featured the vast majority of the 2025 LP, in addition to a plethora of classics, including their post-punk revival breakthrough “Take Me Out” (which recently passed one billion streams on Spotify), 2009 indie sleaze anthem “No You Girls,” and the neo-glam of “Love Illumination.”  Select dates have even included “Jacqueline,” the opening number of their first full-length and the band’s contribution to Michael Winterbottom’s infamous 9 Songs, perhaps the most hardcore mainstream film of all-time, which I regularly tout as, “The Most Rock N’ Roll Film Ever Made.” (Listen for the track on the December edition of Philthy Radio, now streaming via Mixcloud.)

The A.V. Club proclaims, “The songs are still poppy, infectious, and supremely danceable in classic Franz fashion…” of The Human Fear, whose songs have been in heavy rotation at Y-Not Radio throughout the first part of 2025, with “The Birds” coming in at #7 on this week’s Top 11 @ 11.  The album’s latest official single, “Hooked,” dropped this January and features a live performance video of the song from Franz Ferdinand’s sold-out tour of Mexico late last year that gives fans just a taste of what can be expected of the band’s live spectacle, which remains as impressive as ever.  Go to  https://www.ynotradio.net/top11.php by Thursday morning (around 9am) to enter for a chance to win tickets to the show.  Or, if you don’t want to chance missing out, you can just buy your tickets below.
