Summertime is quickly coming to an end, but the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection is still awaiting one of the summer’s best double-headlining jaunts, which will find itself at Underground Arts on Friday, August 25th…  This July two of our favorite indie folk acts — Brooklyn quartet Florist and singer/songwriter Skullcrusher (AKA Helen Ballentine) – kicked off more than a month of double-headlining North American dates across the country and back.  Each band are touring behind stunning 2022 full-lengths, Florist’s S/T album, which NPR’s Bob Boilen characterized as, “The most beautiful music I’ve heard in 2022,” and Skullcrusher’s Quiet the Room, which Pitchfork called, “Lovely, captivating, and quietly devastating.”  Both artists put on some of the best shows we saw in the 215 last year, with Florist headlining The Lounge at World Café Live in August and Skullcrusher headlining Johnny Brenda’s in November.  For this double-headlining outing, each act is bringing full sets (Florist’s recent setlists even seem to be longer than their WCL gig.), heavy on their latest albums, but also including new material.  I would highly recommend getting your tickets in advance (below), and reading the chat that I had with Florist last summer.  Also, check out Florist’s recent performance of “43” (off of their latest LP) and “Vacation” (off of 2015 EP Holdly) for Pioneer Works.
