The last time Walla Walla, Washington indie rockers Chastity Belt played the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection was nearly half a decade ago, when they headlined First Unitarian Church in November of 2019 in support of their self-titled fourth LP.  Well, they’re preparing to return to the city’s most famous DIY venue this coming Sunday, May 5th, behind their recently released fifth full-length, Live Laugh Love.

Live Laugh Love (named for a stick-and-poke tattoo vocalist/guitarist Julia Shapiro sports on her ankle), which was recorded over three sessions in as many years (January of 2020 and November of 2021 and 2022), is the quartet’s (who have remained the band’s constant lineup since they began in 2010) first for Suicide Squeeze, in addition to the first to feature all four members singing a song.  Paste calls the LP, “a refreshing outing from Chastity Belt, who are no doubt in top form, as the album arrives like the culmination of each member’s lifelong musical evolution taking the collective whole to new heights. Like the saccharine phrase it’s named for, it’s a project that’ll give you a good laugh while simultaneously disarming you with heartfelt sincerity,” while an album review from Under the Radar characterizes the band as, “low key dream rock legends.”

Chastity Belt have been touring Live Laugh Love for the better part of the month, with a setlist that features the majority of the album, in addition to a small sampling from their entire back catalogue.  Get your tickets (below) while you still can, check out the group’s music videos for recent singles “Chemtrails” and “I-90 Bridge,” and read my 2019 chat with Chastity Belt drummer Gretchen Grimm, who provides lead vocals on Live Laugh Love’s “Tethered.”
