Although you normally need to venture to Fishtown or South Philly to catch a good cozy, sweaty rock show in the City of Brotherly Love at Sisterly Affection, this weekend MilkBoy’s really got the Rock’N’Roll.  Saturday night the Center City bar/restaurant/venue hosts Thunderpussy, bluesy hard rockers who still believe in decadence in both lifestyle and dress style.  But tonight the venue kicks off the weekend with C.J. Ramone (of, you guessed it…), who will likely be kicking out a plethora of Ramones jams, in addition to his solo output… which isn’t exactly a million miles from the music he made with Joey, Johnny, and Marky…

… However, we just might be most excited for Dog Party, who will be providing direct support for C.J. tonight at MilkBoy.  Dog Party are comprised of sisters Gwendolyn and Lucy Giles and, despite the fact that they’re still about college age, they have been making music together since 2007 and already released six full-lengths.  (You may remember the duo opening for Green Day at the Tower back in 2016…)  Their brand of punk jams combines the punch of power pop with the sass of riot grrrl, making them would-be ideal tourmates for our friends like The Coathangers, The Julie Ruin, and Kate Nash.  Last year Dog Party self-released their sixth LP, Hit & Run, and they’re currently working on new music.  I would highly recommend coming out to MilkBoy and letting them rock your socks off tonight… But, before the show, find some excuse to goof off at work for a few minutes to watch their new music video for “Operator” (below) and read our very first chat, from all the way back in 2013.

During the day Izzy Cihak teaches transgression, subversion, and revolution at Temple University. At night he haunts Philthy's best venues to cover worthwhile acts for Philthy Mag. Morrissey is everything to him and, in their own heads, all of his friends see themselves as Zooey Deschanel.
