So F1rst Friday this month is slim pickings. With the holiday weekend a lot of galleries have decided to take a backseat to our great nation and schedule their openings for next Friday. Lucky for us, there are a few galleries married to tradition.
Olfactics opens at Vwvoffka tonight. This tongue tying affair is a performative sculpture promising a “pungent array of odour specimen”. I’m not sure exactly what that means, but I’m excited to see young spaces like this and Extra Extra expanding the boundaries of what kind of art you can find in Philly galleries, even if I have to use a dictionary to read their statements. Oh yeah, and while we’re at it, Extra Extra has an opening, too.
Projects gallery in Northern Liberties presents Four Square, four artists from the Philadelphia Salon. This group features “members of the art community who are building focused momentum in the Philly art scene”. Obviously, Philthy loves local artists and our community, so we’re always happy to find other people with the same mindset.
It looks like it’ll be an early night tonight, but good riddance. We all need to rest up for the Goo Goo Dolls show anyways.
