Ex Hex’s debut 7”, “Hot Water” b/w “Waterfall” and “Everywhere”, is out today on Merge and the accompanying music video is bizarrely timely (At least for me…)  The first video from the playfully punk Washington DC trio (comprised of Mary Timony, formerly of Helium and Wild Flag; Betsy Wright; and Laura Harris) was inspired by the Czech New Wave’s most brilliant absurdist farce, Daisies (whose auteur, Věra Chytilová, passed just last week), and stars Nation of Ulysses/The Make-Up mainmain Ian Svenonius (Whom I was recently told I resemble to a significant degree… mostly for our perpetual-rebellious-teen, Marxist ideologies, but apparently our mutual taste in outerwear and accessories is also noteworthy.)  The ladies of Ex Hex are currently on tour and will be playing Boot & Saddle this Saturday, March 22nd.  Pick up a digital copy of “Hot Water” on iTunes, come on out to the show, and go to Pitchfork and check out their and director Laura Gallagher’s reinterpretation of the radical leftist classic that may just own the title of “The Punkest Movie Ever Made.”

During the day Izzy Cihak teaches transgression, subversion, and revolution at Temple University. At night he haunts Philthy's best venues to cover worthwhile acts for Philthy Mag. Morrissey is everything to him and, in their own heads, all of his friends see themselves as Zooey Deschanel.
