As we all know, the touring season is winding down, but there are still a handful of pretty amazing Philthy shows well-worth getting excited about in the next couple of weeks.  And I can guarantee you that none are more worth getting excited about this week than Deer Tick’s show at Union Transfer this Friday, December 1st.  The Americana garage rockers are currently touring behind their sixth and seventh studio albums; Deer Tick, Vol.1 and Deer Tick, Vol. 2; each released this September on Partisan.  The two albums showcase the sonic spectrum of the band’s musical loves, with Vol. 1 focusing on their rootsy and folksy balladry and Vol. 2 boasting of their penchant for punk and fondness for ‘90s alt rocking.  Likewise, their current tour, entitled Twice Is Nice, includes two sets: one acoustic and one electric.  The shows feature songs from all seven of their releases and tend to be on the long-winded side… Their show at Mohawk in Austin included 33 songs (So pace yourself… They might be the best drinking band of their generation, but they’ve been playing some gems toward the end of the night that you’ll want to remember.)  I realize many of you are feeling a bit sluggish from the holidays so, if you need a little push to get excited about this amazing Friday night honky-tonk punk party, here’s a quick refresher in 10 essential Deer Tick tunes.
