The last time we saw Arlo Parks in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection was last May, when the West London-raised, Los Angeles-based soulful indie pop singer/songwriter played an exceptionally intimate performance for WXPN members that provided one of the highlights of last year’s NON-COMM at World Café Live.  The mini-set featured previews of a handful of tracks from Parks’ sophomore LP, My Soft Machine, which dropped later that month on Transgressive Records.

In the time since, Arlo Parks has appeared on the cover of Alternative Press, recorded a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR, performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (for the second time), put out a deluxe edition of My Soft Machine, and released her debut book, THE MAGIC BORDER: Poetry And Fragments From My Soft Machine.

My Soft Machine (Deluxe) features six new tracks, including covers of Jai Paul’s “Jasmine” and Tirzah’s “Holding On,” a new version of “I’m Sorry” with Congolese-Belgian singer/rapper Lous and The Yakuza, a reworking of “Blades” featuring American rapper redveil, and acoustic recordings of “Devotion” and “Pegasus.”  THE MAGIC BORDER includes lyrics from My Soft Machine, in addition to exclusive images courtesy of Daniyel Lowden and 20 new poems.

Arlo Parks has been on the road, touring My Soft Machine throughout the US, since late last month.  And while it won’t be quite as intimate as her show last year at World Café Live, she will be headlining Union Transfer next Friday, March 29th, for the second-to-last date of the tour.  The date is somehow not yet sold-out, a surprising fact considering that her last proper headlining show in the 215 was in 2022 at Franklin Music Hall, which boasts more than double UT’s capacity.  So, we would highly recommend getting tickets ASAP (link below).  In the meantime, check out these visuals of Parks performing “Purple Phase” and “Devotion” at NON-COMM, her most recent appearance on The Late Show, and the official music video for her cover of “Jasmine.”
