For those looking to go out this Saturday, but refrain from indulging in green beer, green Mardi Gras beads, and miniature plastic top hats, also green (And I hope that’s all of my readers.), Boot & Saddle just might have a good reason for you to hit the town. Singer/producer/DJ Kelly Lee Owens will be headlining our favorite former-honky-tonk this St. Patrick’s Day. The London-based songstress (and former-nurse) is touring behind her self-titled debut LP, which hit shelves last March. She already hit up the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection in a ridiculously rad way last July, when she played a headlining set at an exceptionally sweaty and exceptionally swanky edition of Making Time at The Barbary. Despite growing up an indie-popper, many of the sounds found of her first full-length have been inspired by the techno aesthetics of friends, collaborators, and former co-workers Daniel Avery and Ghost Culture. The album has been praised by the likes of Pitchfork, Entertainment Weekly, and Consequence of Sound, with Pitchfork pointing out that, despite the very present techno influences, the album actually really rings more of a contemporary brand of dream pop. I’m not always the best judge of things like these, but it kinda/sorta seems like Kelly Lee Owens might be kinda/sorta huge in the very near future, so I would highly recommend this opportunity to see her take over this 150-capacity South Philly spot… In the meantime, check out the video for “Anxi,” a collaboration with our brilliant buddy Jenny Hval.
