Last week Kasey Chambers – who you may have heard on the latest edition of Philthy Radio with her double-platinum No. 1 single “Not Pretty Enough,” off of 2001 sophomore LP Barricades & Brickwalls, which would go on to win the hearts of horror fans for its appearance in Sean Byrne’s 2009 feature debut, The Loved Ones – kicked off a relatively rare US tour, which will have the Australian country-folk singer/songwriter headlining City Winery Philadelphia this Sunday, June 29th, Chambers’ first appearance in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection since 2017, when she headlined World Café Live.

The US tour is in support of Kasey Chambers’ 9th solo LP, Backbone (which features a noteworthy live cover of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”), and her second memoir, Just Don’t Be a Dickhead and Other Profound Things I’ve Learnt, both of which dropped last year.  The North American dates, which kicked off at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, have featured a handful of tracks from Backbone, in addition to tracks from the artist’s first three LPs: 1999’s The Captain, 2001’s Barricades & Brickwalls, and 2004’s Wayward Angel.  Get your tickets below and read my 2012 chat with Kasey Chambers about her 2011 covers LP, Storybook, which features her take on some of her favorite songs by the likes of Lucinda Williams, John Prine, and Gillian Welch.

During the day Izzy Cihak teaches transgression, subversion, and revolution at Temple and Drexel. At night he haunts Philthy's best venues to cover worthwhile acts for PHILTHY MAG. Morrissey is everything to him and, in their own heads, all of his friends see themselves as Zooey Deschanel.
