2/8 There are two very different, very awesome events going down tonight in our fair city. First off, we have a benefit show for one of my favorite causes, Girls Rock Philly. The benefit show follows a 6pm reading of “Girls to the Front: The True Story of the Riot Grrrl Revolution” by author Sara Marcus and a panel discussion featuring Kathleen Hanna, Katy Otto, and Beth Warsaw-Duncan. There are no more avaialable seats for the reading or discussion, but good news – they will be streaming the event live to The Rotunda. So get there early, and stick around for a great cause and some even greater local female artists.

Also tonight, is another installment of North Star Bar’s New Music Series. Tonight’s showcase will feauture a mix of some of Philadelphia’s best indie folk rock. Both Hidden River Construction and Various Eggs will be performing special stripped down minimal sets. Also performing are Ross Garlow and Kevin and The Shapes. [Get tickets here.]

2/10 Shark Tank is a rap group comprised of Lord Grunge (of Grand Buffet), Mickey Free, Brendan Richmond, and Height (Height with Friends.) The group sets out on a mini tour this week to celebrate the release of their debut album. Stop by Danger Danger this Thursday for a one of a kind experience with Gavin Riley, ‘tine-‘tine, and Pyramid $keem. Stream a track off of Shark Tank’s new album below.

2/11 Earlier this month Wild Nothing and Abe Vigoda set out on a national tour together. The combination of Wild Nothing’s hazy bedroom pop and Abe Vigoda’s postpunk electronic feel are a perfect match for Grandchildren. Hear the magic unfold this Friday at the First Unitarian Church. This is definitely one of my top picks for the month of February. [Get tickets here.]
