We’re a humble, modest lot here at PHILTHY MAG… We know that our taste might not necessarily hold much sway… but we’re quite the fans of Sweden’s Little Dragon… and so are Damon Albarn, Pharrell Williams, and our very own Questlove, who proclaims them to be his favorite band.  The band, whose self-titled debut dropped in 2007, has made a name for themselves making eclectic electro amalgams of trip hop, synthpop, and downtempo for the better part of a decade, but with their fourth LP, Nabuma Rubberband, released this May, they’ve gotten a little more traditionally sexy, with vocalist Yukimi Nagano citing Janet Jackson slow jams as a major influence to her current mood.  The tunes are still dance-party-suited, but that dance party is about 95% likely to have a “happy ending.”  Little Dragon’s live performances are equally sleek, chic, and uplifting, and they will be hitting the stage of Union Transfer next Monday, October 13th, which will likely have the 215’s coolest residents coming out for the “soul” purpose of letting down the guard of that façade to get down with some dopesauce, ‘80s-inspired, synth jams.

During the day Izzy Cihak teaches transgression, subversion, and revolution at Temple University. At night he haunts Philthy's best venues to cover worthwhile acts for Philthy Mag. Morrissey is everything to him and, in their own heads, all of his friends see themselves as Zooey Deschanel.
